2026 Astrology: Birthing New Realities (And Why Your Discernment Is Everything)
If you've been paying any attention to the astrological weather, you already know: 2026 is not a "business as usual" kind of year.
This is the year when:
Multiple major outer planets change signs – this time, for the long haul
Saturn and Neptune meet for the first time in Aries in nearly 170 years
We begin a new eclipse cycle on the Leo/Aquarius axis
The structures we've been clinging to finally, definitively crumble – and when something genuinely new has the chance to be born.
But here's what I keep coming back to as I've been sitting with this year's astrology: 2026 isn't just about what's being born. It's about whose vision you're birthing.
Because here's the thing – while I wish it were as simple as us discerning between “old paradigm” vs “new paradigm,” there are actually multiple new realities trying to emerge right now, all competing for the resources of your attention, belief, and energy. Some of them are authentic, life-giving, and aligned with your soul's deepest knowing. And then some of them, while they might tout the fresh and shiny “newness” of innovation, technological advancement, and “progress,” are just the old paradigm worldview of control and domination in updated packaging – still trying to conscript your energy, your attention, and your life force to build someone else's dream.
That’s why your discernment about where you place your energy in 2026 is EVERYTHING.
The Astrological Landscape: What's Actually Happening in 2026
Let me walk you through the major transits that are shaping this year, because understanding the "what" helps us work with the "how."
Neptune Enters Aries (January 26, 2026)
Neptune – the planet of dissolution, spirituality, dreams, and illusions – moves into Aries for the long-haul, through 2039. We got a glimpse of this Neptune in Aries energy from March 30, 2025 through Oct 22, 2025, before it retrograded back into Pisces to finish its karmic cleanup work there.
This is a 13-year transit that will redefine how we relate to action, identity, courage, and the spiritual warrior archetype. Neptune dissolves whatever it touches, and in Aries, it's dissolving our old ideas about what it means to be a pioneer, to fight for something, to assert ourselves in the world.
But here's what I find most potent about this transit: Neptune in Aries is bringing disillusionment with the guru complex. It's dissolving the illusion that someone else – some teacher, some leader, some authority figure, or even some AI chatbot – has more wisdom, more spiritual power, more answers than you do.
For years, maybe lifetimes, we've been conditioned to give our authority away. To look outside ourselves for permission, for validation, for the "right" answer. To believe that spiritual wisdom lives somewhere "out there" in someone who's more evolved, more enlightened, more connected than we are.
Neptune in Aries is breaking that spell. It's bringing disillusionment, yes – but disillusionment is just the dissolution of illusion. And the illusion that needs to dissolve is the one that keeps us giving our power away, willingly (even if unconsciously), to others.
The work of the spiritual warrior isn't just about taking right action in the world. It's about reclaiming your own agency, your own authority, your own spiritual power first. Because you can't become the spiritual warrior you're meant to be while you're still looking to someone else to tell you who you are and what you should do.
This transit asks: What does sacred action look like? What does it mean to be a spiritual warrior who doesn't replicate the violence of the old paradigm? And most importantly: What becomes possible when you stop giving your power away and trust your own inner knowing?
The Saturn-Neptune Conjunction in Aries (February 20, 2026)
This is the big one! Saturn (structure, limitation, reality) meets Neptune (dissolution, spirit, imagination) at 0°45' Aries.
These two planets meet approximately every 36 years, and their conjunction always marks a shift in how we collectively structure our dreams and ideals. The last time they met was in 1989 in Capricorn – right as the Berlin Wall fell, the Soviet Union began to collapse, and the internet was being born. Structures dissolved. New dreams became possible.
Now they're meeting in Aries, the sign of new beginnings, pioneering, and the self. And they're meeting at 0 degrees, which always carries potent initiatory energy, similar to the Fool archetype in tarot.
What structures are ready to dissolve so that a new vision of who we are and what's possible can emerge? What new forms need to be built to hold our evolving spiritual understanding?
Uranus Enters Gemini (April 25, 2026)
Uranus, planet of revolution, awakening, and sudden change, moves into Gemini for the first time (fully, since we got a blip preview of this energy in summer 2025) since 1942-1949 (hello, the birth of the transistor, the beginning of the Information Age, and also, yes, a lot of disinformation and propaganda).
Uranus will be in Gemini until 2033, revolutionizing how we communicate, think, learn, and share information. Expect breakdowns and breakthroughs in technology, media, education, and how we make sense of reality itself.
In 2026 specifically, Uranus forms major aspects with other outer planets – squaring the North/South Nodes in June, trining Pluto in July and November, and sextiling Neptune in July. These aspects create openings for genuinely new ways of thinking and communicating to emerge, but they also amplify the chaos and confusion around what's true and what's not.
Chiron Enters Taurus (June 19, 2026)
Chiron, the asteroid known as the "wounded healer," moves into Taurus after spending 8 years in Aries.
In Taurus, Chiron will bring up our deepest wounds around worthiness, safety, embodiment, resources, and our connection to the earth and to pleasure. This is a collective healing journey around what it means to have a body, to feel secure, and to know that we're enough just as we are.
For the second half of 2026, we get a preview of this energy before Chiron retrogrades back into Aries in September. The seed is being planted now, and then in 2027, when it moves back into Taurus for a longer-haul journey, we’ll begin more of the full journey.
Jupiter Enters Leo (June 30, 2026)
Jupiter, planet of expansion, growth, and abundance, moves into Leo, the sign of creative self-expression, joy, play, and sovereign leadership.
To understand what's shifting here, it helps to look at where we've been. For the past year, Jupiter has been moving through Cancer, amplifying our emotional realms and inner worlds. And Jupiter always amplifies – for better or for worse.
For people already in tune with their emotional landscape, for highly sensitive and empathic souls, this has meant even MORE amplified emotional waves. But it's also created opportunities for deeper emotional connection, healing, and intuitive development. For people who avoid and fear their feelings? Jupiter in Cancer has amplified their defense mechanisms – denial, projection, displacement, avoidance, reactionary impulses.
Now, at the end of June, Jupiter moves into Leo, and the same pattern holds: it will amplify both the gifts AND the shadows.
The gifts of Leo: There will definitely be more opportunities to SHINE. More creative self-expression. More connection to joy, spontaneity, and the playfulness of your inner child. More permission to take up space and lead from your authentic center.
But the shadows will be amplified too – and this is especially important to understand given everything else happening in 2026.
Jupiter in Leo can amplify: performing for others' approval even when it's not fully authentic (selling out to the mainstream); becoming overly attached to and protective of our ego; needing attention and external validation like an addictive drug; wanting to RULE over others rather than simply embodying our own sovereignty.
Leo, remember, is the archetype of kings, queens, and royalty. And there are very different ways to hold that archetype.
This matters because while Jupiter's aspects to the outer planets throughout July will be instigating greater self-sovereignty and authentic self-expression for many of us, it will also be amplifying the very forces we're standing up against: authoritarian, domination-based leadership. People who believe they're entitled not just to their own life force energy, but to YOURS. To your decision-making power over your own life. To your emotions, your attention, your compliance.
In November, when Jupiter is conjunct the South Node in Leo, this shadow side becomes especially potent. Old patterns around ego, performance, and false sovereignty will be up for release – but they'll also continue to be LOUD on their way out.
Throughout July, Jupiter makes major aspects to nearly every outer planet – squaring Chiron, trining Neptune, opposing Pluto, sextiling Uranus. This screams big momentum energy. This is "things are MOVING now" energy. And it carries us through the rest of the year.
The question is: are you using this momentum to birth YOUR authentic self-expression, or are you being swept up in someone else's performance?
The Leo-Aquarius Eclipse Cycle Begins (February 2026)
We begin a new 18-month eclipse cycle on the Leo-Aquarius axis in February, with an new moon solar eclipse in Aquarius on February 17.
Eclipses are always about destiny taking over the steering wheel to get us back on track with our most aligned path. To do that, they highlight what's being released from and what's being called into our lives. On the Leo-Aquarius axis, we're working with the tension between individual creative expression (Leo) and collective belonging (Aquarius), between leading and collaborating, between shining our light and contributing to the whole.
This cycle continues through August (and beyond, into 2027) with a new moon total solar eclipse in Leo on August 12.
Here's what's important to understand: eclipses are always determined by where the North and South Nodes are positioned. In July, the North Node moves into Aquarius (and the South Node into Leo), where they'll stay for the next ~2.5 years. This means we're collectively releasing our shadow Leo patterns – the ego attachment, the need for external validation, the performing for approval, the authoritarian impulse to rule over others – and moving toward the highest potentials of Aquarius: collective consciousness, innovative thinking, honoring both individuality AND interconnection, collaboration that doesn't erase the self.
But here's the thing about the nodal axis – it works like an energetic see-saw. (I wrote about this extensively in my latest blog post on the 2025 lessons from the Virgo/Pisces nodal axis, if you want to go deeper into how this dynamic works.) When we're releasing South Node patterns, there's always a temptation to over-correct and swing too hard into the North Node energy.
In this case, that means we need to watch out for Aquarius shadow territory: becoming so focused on the collective that we lose our individual spark; adopting a detached, overly rational approach that cuts us off from our hearts and emotions; getting swept up in groupthink or collective movements that demand we sacrifice our authentic selves for the "greater good."
The real work – and the real gift – of this nodal shift is learning to strike a balance. To hold authentic Leo self-expression AND Aquarian collective consciousness. To shine our unique light AND contribute to the whole. To lead from sovereignty AND collaborate with others. When Leo and Aquarius work together within us and collectively, that's when we birth something genuinely new.
Plus: Three Mercury Retrogrades in Water Signs, Venus Retrograde in Scorpio/Libra, and SO Much More
I could keep going (and I do, in much more detail, in the full 2026 Collective Year Ahead Reading), but you get the sense: this is a PACKED year astrologically.
Almost every outer planet changes signs. That happened in 2025 too, but this time, we’re not just getting a preview of new energies – these planets are done with the cycles they’ve been in for the past 7-12 years and are on NEW 7-12 year journeys. All starting around the same times! There’s also major conjunctions, trines, and squares between these slowest-moving, outer planets (meaning they represent broader, more collective-impacting transformations). Eclipse season shifts. And a LOT of action happening at 0-degree points, those potent initiatory degrees that mark new beginnings.
So What Does This All Mean? The Themes of 2026
When I sit with all of this astrology and let it speak to me, here are the main themes that I keep hearing:
Theme #1: New Life Sprouting From Old Death
2026 is not a clean break from the past. It's messier than that. It's more like composting – the old paradigm, the old self, the old way of doing things is breaking down, and from that decay, new life is sprouting.
You are both hospice worker and midwife this year. You're tending to what's dying while simultaneously preparing for and supporting what's being born.
And the truth is, some of what's dying might still look alive. Some of it might be dressed up in spiritual language or progressive politics or "conscious" branding. Your ability to recognize what's truly life-giving versus what's just the old world in new packaging is one of your most important skills this year.
Theme #2: Choice: Whose Reality Are You Midwifing?
Here's where discernment becomes everything.
Multiple new realities are trying to be born right now. Some are trying to birth more control, more hierarchy, more surveillance, more disconnection from our bodies and the earth – just with better marketing, branded as progress, “the future,” and empowerment.
And some are genuinely trying to birth something new: more sovereignty, more embodiment, more authentic connection, more trust in emergence rather than control.
You don't have to midwife and support every birth. In fact, you CAN'T. Your life force energy is precious, and where you place it matters immensely.
The question you'll be asked again and again in 2026 is: Whose baby am I birthing? Am I midwifing my own authentic emergence, or am I being conscripted into someone else's agenda?
Theme #3: New Forms of Currency
In 2026, certain qualities become incredibly valuable – not in a "trade them for money" way, but in a "these are what will actually sustain and nourish you" way.
I think of these as new forms of currency:
Self-trust and discernment – Your ability to listen to your own inner knowing rather than giving your authority away
Capacity to hold paradox – Moving beyond black/white, either/or thinking into both/and thinking
Authenticity and internal security – Knowing who you are regardless of external validation
Embodiment – Actually being IN your body, feeling your feelings, trusting your physical knowing
Your attention – Where you place it, what you feed it, how you protect it
These are the currencies that will matter most as the year unfolds. The more you've invested in developing these within yourself, the more equipped you'll be to navigate what's coming.
Theme #4: Momentum and Timing
One pattern I'm tracking in 2026 is this sense of waves of momentum – but not just one wave. Two major peaks, with valleys and integration periods in between.
The first wave hits in February with the Saturn-Neptune conjunction. If we're using the birth metaphor (and we are, because that's truly what 2026 is), this is when the water breaks. This is when we move from early contractions – the kind we've been having throughout 2025 and before, uncomfortable but not quite enough to send us to the hospital yet – into active labor. Things get REAL in February.
Then, between February and the summer, we're learning to ride the waves. There are peaks and valleys, moments of intensity and moments of integration. And during this time, we're training – we're building our authenticity, our sovereignty, our discernment – and we're preparing for what's coming.
Because the second major wave – the biggest one of the year – hits between June and August, when multiple outer planets hit exact aspects with one another, multiple planets change signs again (Chiron, the North/South Nodes, Jupiter), and we have our second set of eclipses in the year.
But here's the paradox: to catch these waves, we actually have to SLOW DOWN in the early part of the year. We have to tend to what's dying, grieve what's ending, prepare ourselves internally for what's coming.
The first quarter of 2026 is about preparation and entering active labor. Q2 is about learning to labor, building stamina and capacity. Q3 is transition and crowning – the most intense part. And Q4 is about learning to hold what you've birthed, integrating your new reality.
(In the full Collective Year Ahead Reading, I break down each quarter and each month in much more detail, including exactly what kind of preparation is most supportive in Q1, how to work with the learning-to-labor energy of Q2, how to navigate the intense momentum of Q3, and how to integrate everything in Q4. But I wanted to at least name this pattern here so you can start working with it.)
Theme #5: Reality Wars
This is the shadow side of everything I've been describing.
Because as new realities are trying to be born, there's also a massive battle happening over whose version of reality gets to dominate. We're seeing this play out everywhere – in politics, in media, in technology, in spirituality.
Control and domination versus holistic, systems-level thinking and trust in emergence.
Natural versus synthetic/digital/technological.
Quality of life versus quantity (efficiency, productivity, MORE).
These tensions are going to be LOUD in 2026. And again, your discernment about which reality you're feeding with your energy, attention, and life force is everything.
Working With 2026: What You Actually Need
Look, I could give you a day-by-day breakdown of every transit in 2026. I could tell you exactly when to plant your tomatoes based on the Moon's phase.
But that's not actually what you need. And it's not how I work with astrology.
Because here's the truth: trying to predict and control every detail of your year usually comes from fear. From a need for certainty in an uncertain world. From wanting to control the uncontrollable future.
What you actually need – what astrology at its best can give you – is an overarching STORY and framework for the year. A map of the terrain. A sense of what the planets and energies are reflecting to us, what they're inviting us to learn from, pay attention to on a soul-growth level, and expand into.
This matters because, as I've been saying throughout this post, where you put your focus and attention is one of the most important things you'll decide in 2026. Over and over again, in each moment. And astrology helps you discern that.
Not by telling you exactly what will happen on March 15th versus March 22nd. But by helping you understand: What phase of the process am I in right now? What's being asked of me at this stage? Where should I be focusing my energy? What's trying to be born, and what needs to die first?
What you need is to understand the STORY of this year. To feel into the deeper currents. To know what's being asked of you on a soul level, not just on a "should I start that project now or later" level.
What you need is to cultivate those new currencies within yourself – the self-trust, the capacity for paradox, the embodiment, the discernment.
What you need is to know WHOSE reality you're midwifing, and to make that choice consciously rather than defaulting to whatever's loudest or most demanding of your energy.
And what you need is a framework that helps you navigate each phase of the year – the preparation, the learning to labor, the transition and crowning, the learning to hold what you've birthed – so that you're not just reacting to the astrology, but consciously co-creating with it.
Going Deeper: The 2026 Collective Year Ahead Reading
In the full 2026 Collective Year Ahead Reading and Guide (available for $44), I go much, much deeper into all of this.
I break down each quarter of the year with extended metaphors drawn from the birthing process (because truly, that's what 2026 is – a birth). I walk through each month, showing you what kind of energy is most alive, what's being asked of you, and how to work WITH the astrology rather than feeling overwhelmed by it.
I explore all five key themes in depth – including the practical, embodied ways to develop those new currencies within yourself, how to navigate the Reality Wars without losing yourself, and how to discern whose vision you're actually birthing in each area of your life.
I map out the interplay between all these major transits – not just listing them, but showing you how they build on each other, create momentum, and open specific windows of opportunity throughout the year.
And I share my intuitive takes on what all of this means for us as a collective, and for you as an individual soul navigating this particular moment in human history.
The reading is designed to be something you come back to throughout the year – not just a "read it once in January and forget about it" kind of thing, but a living guide that helps you stay oriented to what matters most as the year unfolds.

Final Thoughts: You're Not Doing This Alone
I know that already, this has been a TON of information to digest, but here's what I want you to know as we step into 2026:
You don't have to have it all figured out. You don't have to know exactly what's being born in you or through you yet. You don't have to be certain about which reality you're midwifing in every area of your life.
What you DO need is a willingness to stay present to what's actually happening – in the world, in your life, in your body. A commitment to keep choosing discernment over reactivity. A remembering that your attention, your energy, and your life force are precious, and YOU get to decide where they go.
2026 is going to ask a lot of us. But it's also going to GIVE us a lot – new possibilities, new ways of being, new visions of what it means to be human on this planet right now.
We're the midwives. We're the hospice workers. We're the ones who get to tend what's dying and support what's being born.
Let's do this consciously. Let's do it together. And let's do it from our most centered, grounded, sovereign place.
